MY ESSAYS
MY TONGUE’S UNIFORM
I never could understand when people say, “You use that word a lot”
“You use that word a lot?” I repeat in disbelief.
How do you use a word a lot? Aren't words meant to be used frequently to communicate?
Or are words now likened to a tiny candy, unwrapped from its wrapper and chewed for 2 minutes at most?
A sweet experience albeit a fleeting one. Not to mention the restraint that needs to be practised with candy.
No! I refuse that restriction.
Words aren't like that to me, and hopefully, I pray, never will they be.
Words to me are like the morning songs of birds.
These songs are sung with melodic tunes and in every dawn of the bird's life.
The consistent chirp chirp or twit twit, Together with the company of the morning breeze fluttering their feathers.
Vigour is put into their lungs as they belt out their songs, high up from the tree branches and their nests. They happily sing regardless of the disapproval from other creatures namely humans.
Words are also like rain.
When rained upon, you can't pick and choose what raindrops fall on you. You either accept your imminent soaking or have an umbrella at hand.
Raindrop after raindrop, you watch as they fall upon you or roll down the umbrella.
The ones that touch your skin are a lot more familiar than the drops rolling off the umbrella.
If it rains as the sun shines, a unicorn gives birth which makes a rainbow.
Therefore, there are words which can be likened to rainbows, words such as arms akimbo and rigmarole are such.
Unless someone is actually standing arms akimbo and there was a need for me to describe the person. There is no reason for me to say those words willy-nilly.
Words aren't celebrities's one-time outfits.
They are your trusty black trousers and blue shirts. The ones you can count on for any outing.
In them, you are easily recognizable and they are jokingly called your uniform.
Ahh, Uniformity. What is life without it?
If asked what the colour of the sky is? The answer will be blue.
The sky will always be blue, even with its easter eggs of other colours.
Regardless of how bad your day was or how good it had been. The quality of your day doesn't change the fact that the sky is blue, and this gives a sense of security.
The security it gives and the certainty that makes your go-to answer blue, This is what uniformity is.
So what is wrong if my tongue decides on its uniformity?
A standardized safety net, it can run to in times of excitement and need.
Henceforth, Let my “splendid, moreover, literally, so, what was that called?, and like ” to name a few, catch me with ease.
Lol….😆
