HAPPINESS

MAN: Hear me happiness, for your absence is cruel,

A skittish lover you are, like a wild mule.

Barely here and already gone, what a duel!

HAPPINESS: Promises I never made to you, neither did you to me.

Spent my due time and took my leave

You keep looking for me in the morrow

While barely acknowledging me in the day,

All you will court is sorrow.

MAN: Am I wrong to want happiness in tomorrow?

HAPPINESS: Have you enjoyed today’s?

MAN: Aye, woe to me

For greed, greed has blinded me.

GREED: Call my name not in slander,

For In contentment, I cannot put asunder

Oh you man, when will you learn gratitude?

This poem serves as a reminder for me to enjoy my wins, however little or big I have deemed it.

So here is me announcing my poem got accepted for publication in OPA’s yearbook (Our Poetry Archive), which theme is “justice”. It is going to be published on the 10th of July, 2025 https://opayearbook2025.wordpress.com/

If we still have internet by then or are still alive, please check it out.

I personally like my take on “Justice”. It is very human-like and fresh or maybe I am just gloating😁.

I haven't gotten the hang of adding images on here, but imagine me doing the robot dance as jubilation.

It feels surreal to be honest, given how red my submittable was and still is. The irony was I got a rejection two days after 😆.

While it shouldn't have bothered me, somehow it did. And sadly, it eclipses this achievement I have in my hands.

I have this shining trophy but somehow my gaze trails the medal which swung on someone else's neck.

Is it greed? Maybe it is.

But it is also ingratitude, Something a former me without any publication will be appalled at.

So here is the poem to remind me to enjoy today's happiness. Longing for tomorrow's isn't going to do me any good except make me blindsided and unhappy.

While I shouldn't relent in my forward pursuits, I should also look back and appreciate how far I have come.
